As an accountant, you will need to be granted Full Access as an Authorised User or Authorisation Administrator for the tax agent entity via the ATO’s Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). This authorisation must be set up by a Principal Authority of that entity using their myGovID. Once this is in place, you can lodge on behalf of the tax agent through ATO online services or your tax software.
Consideration:
- Must be Principal Authority
- Generally a key officeholder (e.g., sole trader, director, trustee or partner) of the tax agent entity.
- Has the power to set up and manage authorisations in RAM.
- Confirm that the tax agent entity is already linked in RAM and Online services for agents.
Ask the Principal Authority of the tax agent entity to:
- Log in to RAM using their myGovID.
- Add you as an Authorised User or Authorisation Administrator for the tax agent entity.
- Ensure your authorisation includes Full Access (or at least the access required to prepare and lodge returns).
Once the authorisation is active, log into the relevant ATO online service (or your practice management/tax software) using your linked credentials and proceed with lodgements on behalf of the tax agent entity.
