You may notice that an Individual Tax Return (ITR) shows more than one Amendment with the status “In Progress” in ATO.
For example:
- Amendment #1 – In Progress – Balancing account
- Amendment #2 – In Progress – Balancing account
- Original return – Issued

LodgeiT Status:
LodgeiT displays the status received from the ATO. Processing and finalisation of an amendment are performed by the ATO, so LodgeiT cannot manually complete or remove an amendment that is still being processed by the ATO.

What does this mean?
This indicates that the ATO has received both amendment lodgements. The amendments may remain in “In Progress – Balancing account” while the ATO processes and reviews them.
If the amendments were lodged less than one day ago, it is normal for the status to remain unchanged while the ATO completes its processing.
Recommended Action
No action is required immediately.
We recommend allowing the ATO a few days to complete processing before taking further action.
Once the ATO has finished processing the amendments, the status and assessment outcome should update accordingly.
If the issue persists
If the amendments continue to show as “In Progress – Balancing account” after allowing sufficient processing time, LodgeiT Support can contact the ATO to request that they review the duplicate amendments and resolve the status on their side.
Important: Avoid submitting another amendment while the existing amendments are still being processed, unless specifically advised to do so. This may result in additional duplicate lodgements.
