Illustration: Completing a tax return for an individual who lives overseas, but the system is not allowing me to use a postcode that is 6 characters long
Answer:
- The State and Postcode fields in LodgeiT apply only to Australian addresses.
- For overseas addresses, these fields must be left empty in the designated State and Postcode fields on the form.
- As a workaround, you can manually enter the full overseas postcode (even if longer than 4 characters) in either Line 1 or Line 2 of the address section instead.
Important Note:
- Foreign addresses do not require State or Postcode entries on Australian tax forms.
- The ATO mandates that postcode fields must be no longer than 4 characters, which is why longer overseas postcodes are not accepted in the postcode field.
This approach ensures your overseas client’s address information is accepted without triggering validation errors in LodgeiT or ATO systems.
