Error: CMN.ATO.CTR.428313 - Net foreign income and/or attributed foreign income amounts must be present. There is an amount at the "foreign income tax offsets" and no ampunts at the "Net Foreign Income" or "Attributed Foreign income" are present.

What this error means

This error occurs when an amount has been entered at Foreign Income Tax Offsets (FITO), but no corresponding foreign income has been declared in either of the following fields:

Net Foreign Income, and/or

Attributed Foreign Income

Under ATO rules, a foreign income tax offset can only be claimed if the related foreign income is included in the tax return.

The ATO requires consistency between:

Foreign income earned, and

Foreign tax paid on that income

If FITO is reported without any declared foreign income, the ATO system flags this as invalid because there is no income to which the offset can be applied.

Solution: According to error if foreign tax offset is filled, then Gross foreign income and net foreign income should be filled too. Press the error and it will redirects you to the issue.

Key ATO rule to remember

You can only claim a Foreign Income Tax Offset if you have included the related foreign income in your assessable income.
