Question: We have a number of cases where prefilled BAS BPAY payment reference number in lodgeIT form is different from what is stated in ATO portal. Looks like LodgeIT using the old reference number.

Is there anyway to update the payment reference number in LodgeIT?

Answer: Some time ago there was a change to the way PRN were generated in ATO. There are 2 ways they can be generated, and this is why the different formats are able to be seen. Both PRN’s are supported by ATO systems and both are correct. I understand this is a little unusual, however if the client wishes to pay, they may use either and the payment should still successfully be received for the correct account.
