How to Remove or Correct Prefilled Dividends for Non-Residents:
- Access the Dividends Section: In LodgeiT, navigate to the taxpayer’s tax return and open Income > Dividends where the prefilled dividend data appears.
- Open the Dividend Worksheet for the Affected Item (typically item 11): Locate the worksheet corresponding to the dividend income prefilled by the ATO. Open this worksheet to view detailed information
- Clear or Adjust the Dividend Amounts: You may delete or blank out the dividend income fields if the dividends are incorrectly prefilled and are not assessable for a non-resident taxpayer. Alternatively, adjust amounts if only part of the dividend is relevant or taxable.
- Specify Non-Resident Status Correctly: Within the dividend worksheet or under the Adjustment tab (or equivalent), make sure the taxpayer is marked as a non-resident for the full year. If there is a Country field in the worksheet, either leave it blank or fill it with the taxpayer’s country of residence (not Australia) as relevant. This helps the system and ATO correctly treat the dividends as subject to non-resident withholding tax rules rather than fully assessable income.
