Overview
The Low Income Super Tax Offset (LISTO) is a government superannuation contribution of up to $500 for eligible low-income individuals.
LISTO is designed to offset the tax paid by a super fund or RSA provider on eligible concessional contributions.
Eligibility
A client may be eligible for LISTO if:
- Their adjusted taxable income (ATI) is $37,000 or less.
- They have eligible concessional super contributions made to a complying super fund.
- They satisfy the other ATO eligibility requirements for LISTO.
The maximum LISTO entitlement is $500.
How LodgeiT Handles LISTO
LodgeiT uses the information reported in the client's tax return to determine the relevant entitlement.
To review the client's super information:
- Open the client's Individual Tax Return.
- Review the client's income and deductions.
- Check any concessional super contributions and eligible personal super contributions.
- Review the calculated tax return estimate.
- If applicable, check the LISTO entitlement included in the return calculation.
Important
The client does not need to apply separately for government super contributions. If eligible, and the client's super fund has their Tax File Number (TFN), the ATO will generally pay the entitlement directly to their super fund account.
Troubleshooting
If LISTO is not appearing as expected:
- Check that the client's ATI is within the eligibility threshold.
- Confirm that eligible concessional contributions have been reported correctly.
- Check that the client's super fund has their TFN.
- Review the client's income and super contribution information for accuracy.
- If the client believes they are eligible but the entitlement is still missing, refer to the ATO for confirmation of eligibility and calculation.
